LORAKS CROFT ORIGINAL

The Loraks Croft Original Memorial Trophy has been donated by Karol Ramsden to LegUp Equestrian for the overall Members Points Champion to hold for one year.

Croft, as he was known at home, is a much missed horse to Karol and to many persons who knew him.  Here are a few words by Karol as a tribute to his memory.

The Loraks Croft Original Memorial Trophy is in memory of a horse who overcame his fears and eventually put his trust in his owner to give his best at shows as well as at home.

Croft was bought from Wigton Horse Sales as a scrawny unbroken 2 year old bred out of TB stallion out of an Irish Draught X Arab mare, he was always full of character.  When we were getting him ready to break he would do huge bucks on the lunge so the person I had originally hoped would back him changed their mind and I ended up doing it myself but fortunately he was an angel.

He soon became a well behaved horse who at home could be used to accompany difficult horses out hacking and even small children or nervous adults could ride him to regain their confidence.

He whinnied to me every morning when he saw me and when going through many difficult times in my life he would cheer me up.

Croft when turned out would always gallop off and then have a thorough role, there was know point ever grooming him before he was turned out!!!)  http://s585.photobucket.com/albums/ss291/karolramsden/?action=view&current=croftinsnowjan09-001_1.flv

When we went to a show it was like owning a different horse.  He became highly strung, neurotic and refused to stand still resulting in having to do constant circles when waiting around.  Even on the ground at shows only very experienced people could handle him resulting in me having to stay with him at all times.

It took many years of patience but eventually he went on to put his trust in me at shows and started to show his best to win many inhand, jumping and ridden championships before he was suddenly lost too soon, age 17 years  in February 2009.
