Show Jumping Event Held Indoors at Bromley Farm, Wortley near Sheffield.

The day started with a 55/65cm Freshmans Class. It was great to see so many inexperienced riders and horses having and go and many of them doing really well. The eventual winner was Lauren Thompson riding her 5yr old horse Mia. Lauren said ‘It was their first ever show jumping event and first time ever going indoors so she was surprised to win’. Second place went to young Georgia Wood riding Alfie.

The team 75 and 85cm classes were won by the teams Crofters Hounds and Crofter Foxes. Travelling from the South Yorkshire/Derbyshire border the 75cm winning team consisted of Sarah Holmes, Alison Holmes, Lucy Morton and Alison Morton the 85cm team of Polly Mallender, Tilly Hodgson, Abi Shaw, Ismay Gavelle all wished to dedicate their win and thoughts to the memory of farrier Mark Newbert whom died in a car crash the week before. Topping the two biggest entry classes of the day with 27 starters, Crofters Team member Sarah Holmes had a particularly successful day by winning the individual 75cm and 85cm classes with her fast consistent show jumping pony Simply Charlie.

The Winner of the 95cm class was Sarah Moore riding Ruby Tuesday (photo right). Sarah from nearby Silkstone was delighted to win her first ever sash plus it was the first time both horse and rider have competed in the ring for 9 years as Sarah put competing on hold to have a family. Her Irish Draught horse proved she had lost none of her enthusiasm or talent despite now being 23 years old. Opting to jump a good clear runner up was the stylish combination of Holly Matthews and Daddy’s Girl just 0.02 seconds slower.

Thank you to Burncote Farm Livery Yard (Gunthwaite) for providing our fantastic 1st Place Rosettes and to Capture U Photography for Sponsoring the Team Sashes.

I did not land back from Spain till 6.30pm the evening before so special thanks must be given to Karol Ramsden for preparing the rosettes, jumping kit and accompanying me course building the evening before until 10pm to see everything set up to our usual high standards.

(a shorter report and selection of photos has also been sent to Equestrian Life Magazine.)
